I've been waiting for this day...
Seth came to me last year, middle of his Senior year, and wanted to talk about school. I knew he was struggling with it and also knew he was only doing the minimal amount of work, just enough to say he was doing it, and enough to keep me off his back. He hated school, he wasn't learning anything (which I knew to be true), and he wanted to quit. He said he would keep going if I insisted but he wasn't going to learn anything.... which I also knew to be true.
I could force him to do the work but I couldn't force him to learn. It is something you have to want.
So, I let him quit, hoping that some day soon he would see and understand that he needed to learn, that learning was good and can be fun and rewarding....
Last week he came to me with a plan!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!
He is going to take classes to get his GED. He has hired a friend/drum teacher to teach him some of the more technical aspects of drumming. Once the GED is done we are going to start applying for grants and send in his application to the School of Rock (ACM@UCO) in Oklahoma City. He is going for a two year associate degree and then the plan is to move to Bransom, MO and play in one of those big music halls with a house band.
I'm thrilled for him that he has a plan. Now, let's make it happen!!!

That is so exciting!! He is so lucky to have such a supportive and caring mom! Good luck Seth!!
I hope his path works out beyond his dreams!
So glad you sent me your blog link. I have missed your words since I lost all my blogroll. Seth is so lucky to have a mom who lets him find his way. I needed to hear how right that is. Thanks.
