My favorite part about "Mimzy" besides, of course, all the fantastical science fiction stuff was the aspect of the universe speaking to us. Sometimes I just know down deep in my bones that if I could make myself be still long enough that the universe would speak to me. I have all these deep longings to know the mysteries of the universe but I can't seem to be still long enough to hear anything except the whirr of the wind in my ears as I go in circles.

I have so enjoyed Kathleen Norris' book about Dakota. It's more than about Dakota, it is about being connected to the place where you are.

I really want to come to a place in my life where I can spend much time in meditative thought, reading, pursuit of that connection we all have to the earth and to each other.

We all have those deep wells within us just waiting to be tapped into and I determine to do so before I die.

People talk about, make lists about all the places they want to go and things they want to do before they die - that's mine.
I want to tap into the power within me, to become enlightened, to know more of the divine that I've ever known and to be able to share that with at least my children.

think I will go for a walk now................

ME TOO! I was at dinner with my friend Nicky last night and she was talking about the meditations she's been doing lately and how they led her to teaching a class at a retirement facility. What I found interesting is that, like me, she finds it hard to sit still and be quite for very long at all. She said she uses guided tapes for now to help her stay focused. She compared it to her Yoga class where she would literally forget to breathe if the teacher didn't remind her. When I tried meditation I thought "oh I can do this on my own", but that's not true at all. I'm considering some guided meditations. We are so conditioned to not listen to that part of us, that it will take practice to begin to listen to it. Last night we were making lists of all the things we do to occupy/avoid ourselves. It was a really long list! Opening ourselves up to the universe is no easy task, but I believe it is more that possible for each of us to do so. We just have to give ourselves the chance and not be too hard on ourselves if we don't get it right away.

I have learned through many hard lessons this kind of listening to the universe thing, but on a more every day practical level.

I 'go with my gut' or 'listen to my inner voice'.

When my gut tells me something, I have learned to do it. Good or bad, just act.

I think some would declare this instinct, some would declare this the Holy Spirit. I don't know what it is, but I listen.
