Jesus Freaks??

This will be my last miracle story.
This one was pretty scary.

~~~~~
Mark and I came from similar backgrounds of drugs, alcohol, and bad relationships. We were so happy to be "saved", together and out of that life that we just wanted to tell the world.
We drove to the North Carolina coast and began walking with the cross. We had an old, really old, beat up Chevy van with a pop-up top that we had put a queen size bed in, that's where we lived while we were out being Jesus Freaks. I couldn't even begin to tell you all the stories from this trip, but, this one I remember very clearly.
We couldn't walk with the cross on the Interstate so we followed the secondary roads that run parallel to the interstate which allowed us to see much more country and visit with more people. It was slow going so we really got to see things.
We would begin early each morning, I would drive the van a mile up the road and Mark would walk to where I was, stopping along the way to talk with the many, many people who pulled off the road and wanted to know what we were doing and why.
This particular morning we were somewhere in Tennessee, in a very rural area. There had been nothing for miles, very few cars, we had seen very few people.
I was sitting in the van with the windows down. I had my big ol' Scofield Bible up on the steering wheel reading.
A pickup truck passed me going in the opposite direction, slowed down, looked at me and drove on.
In a few minutes the truck came up behind me and three very rough looking men got out of it.
One of them stayed at the back of my van, leaning on the hood of the truck, one of them went to the passenger side of the van, the other one walked up to my window.
Okay ladies.... what do you think was fixing to happen???
The one that came up to my window started asking me questions about why I was there, what was I doing, where was I from, that sort of thing.
To be honest I was never afraid until it was all over.
Every time he would ask me a question, I would answer him with something about Jesus. We are out here carrying the cross telling people about Jesus.
step back
We are doing this because of what Jesus has done for us
step back...
Every time I would say the name "Jesus" each one of them would take a step back. By the time I was really preaching to them about needing to have a relationship with God thru Jesus they were backing away and getting in their pick-up truck and leaving.
never saw them again.
~~~

I have enjoyed writing these, I like to share my stories with you. I hope you enjoyed reading them.

I should know about our "big news" by tonight and then I will share.

I would have been so scared! I guess they knew better than to mess with you and your friend Jesus. :)
Haha that sounded so "churchy" when I read it.

Sandy, it has felt very "churchy" writing these, but, that's where we were at that time in our lives.

I think "churchy" has it's place. It made you who you are and I know you and Mark were doing it with hearts that were truly searching for the right way and not doing it because it's what someone else said you do.

Wow - these have not sounded 'churchy' to me, Aola. Intriguing. I've never known anyone who built a cross (exact dimensions) and then walked with it. I know where you are in your faith today, which seems to be about where I am, where is Mark?

Anj, Mark seems to be floundering a bit in his faith, he is having a lot of trouble letting go of some of the fundamentalist teachings that were so ingrained in us,but, he sees the same problems I do with "church as usual". When we left church it was as if he pretty much just quit searching.
