The American Goldfinches are here!
One morning last week I walked outside with my coffee and thought "boy, the birds are happy this morning..." then it dawned on me that it was the finches. We are on their migratory route, they come by the hundreds, it's more that you hear them than see them. You hear their chatter but they are hard to spot. They are tiny little yellow birds, not much more than 3 or 4 inches long. We did see about 20 of them feeding in the driveway one day. On the years that I remember to fill my thistle feeders on time they stay around about a month, if not, they stay a couple of weeks and move on.

I saw the first hummingbird scout last evening while I was sitting on the porch. He was checking out my butterfly bush. Time to get a new hummingbird feeder.

I got my garden tilled right before dark last night, last thing on my list of things I wanted to accomplish yesterday. The dirt had finally dried out enough that I knew I could get it done and the powers that be were predicting rain so I couldn't put it off. It did rain a little last night but not much. I got up first thing this morning and planted the rest of the seeds I had on hand.
oregano
basil
rosemary
eggplant
sunflower borders
spaghetti squash
zucchini squash
yellow crookneck squash

I still need to get to the garden center and buy tomato plants and okra. Okra is the last thing to plant because it is a hot weather plant.

Seth wants to do the cucumbers and dill this year, but, he is sleeping this morning since they didn't get home until 5:30 this morning.

Most people don't have a clue what goes into to putting on a show like the Newsboys. They and about 30 volunteers from H2O worked all day Friday - from 12:30 to 10:00 - and Saturday from 8:00am to 5:30 am Sunday getting set up, preparing food for the band and workers, putting on the show, and tearing it all down again.
One boy, Jesse, the youth band guitarist, got badly hurt - he got one of his fingers caught in the spinning drum riser when they were tearing down and it smashed the end of his finger almost completely off.

The "chick flick" I had rented for last night turned out to NOT be a chick flick, it was a thriller. "Gift" with Cate Blanchett and several other good actors - it was a really good movie. A little scary to be watching on a night I was alone but not one of those gross scary movies that I can't watch.

I'm going to get my office work done and go play outside, if it's not raining by then.

Happy Sunday to you.

I am going to do a little container gardening. I reallly wish I could have a proper garden, but with a mobile home in a park, no dice.

your list of veggies sounds wonderful!

I love container gardens - they are so pretty.
I'm going to pot a couple of things to sit on my Mom's back porch for her to tend to this summer - something for her to do.

You must have so much fun in your garden/yard. I can't wait until September!

I don’t know if we have any goldfinches here or not. But I saw a hummingbird scout too! I love working in the garden, but can never seem to grow anything. I am all excited in April, but as the weeks go on, I let the weeds go, I don't water like I should, I never fertilize, etc. So I just plant hostas, lol.

Jen - I have a whole lot more time to be in the garden than you do - if I had to work 8+ hours a day somewhere else I'm sure my garden/yard wouldn't get nearly the attention it does :)
