It was about ten-thirty, eleven, somewhere in there; Zoe was in bed sleeping and Levi came to the office to talk to me about something.... we wandered outside together. He commented on how loud the critters were being. I had noticed it earlier when I went to the office. It was as if they were uneasy about something. It wasn't just their normal loud mating songs it was a raucous cry. We talked about the storm the night before, nature and the devastation that sometimes comes from humans trying to live in nature's pathways. We talked about Avatar. We talked about the spiritual things in nature and the connection between man's spirit and nature and how civilized man has lost the meaning of his existence, especially here in the western world and how we so desperately would like to reconnect.
As we stood there talking there were fireflies (around here known as fairies) flying all around the yard. One of the fairies came and gently landed on me then in the same instant a whoosh overhead and we looked up at the same time to see an owl fly directly over us.

We stood in silence for a few seconds letting that soak in. I looked at Levi and said, "I think the universe hears us".

God help us to pay attention, to listen, to see, to believe.....

Have I ever told you how much I enjoy my conversations with Levi? Well, yeah, I figured I had.

I love fireflies. I love warm soft nights being out just talking to someone important to you.

I'm looking forward to doing those things with my Husband in NC.

  2. Fireflies are my favorite! They haven't come out here yet, but I think they will soon.

I think there are many in western civilization that are more connected to the earth than we get credit for.
